What changes did the American Revolution bring About?
The American Revolution impacted the whole of America and the rest of the world in various ways. The revolutionary war significantly marked its establishment of a brand new nation, in which was founded along with new political ideas as well as self-governing. Not only did this lead to a successful colonization, but it also resulted in industrialization of the American continent. The revolution also brought social, political, as well as economical changes. By the end of the revolution in 1783, there were noticeable and significant changes in the Colonial American society.
SOCIALLY:
One of the earliest changes would be the belief in equality amongst everyone, which also known as egalitarianism. Throughout the fighting of the revolutionary war, both wealthy military men and men living in poverty joined forces in respect. Since then, it has led to a more open-minded idea that your financial background, rich or poor, should not matter. This is clear evidence that epitomizes change in the way people thought and their values and beliefs. Although this has slightly improved the lives of the Americans, the Souths did not agree to change their beliefs or stance. This is due to the fact that slavery, to the Souths were too important to even think about banning it or even limiting it at all.
DID YOU KNOW?: The North Americans looked down upon slavery and a while after the American revolution, the North freed thousands and thousands of slaves. By the time the war has formally ended, around 20,000 slaves were granted freedom.
POLITICALLY:
The American Revolution had a major affect on the Colonists politically, especially women. In prior of the war, women had no rights at all except the role of raising families and taking care of their children. However, after the war has ended women began to gain some rights that led them to a closer step to freedom and power. Women were given the right to be able to declare a divorce between their husband and themselves if they desired to. This is something they would never have dreamed of being able to access to such right. Even-though this was a clear change after the revolutionary war and shows its value, there were of course its limitations as well. This right was only available to women in certain colonies. Furthermore, women who announces a divorce would usually lose most of her own properties to the man.
DID YOU KNOW?: During the battle, several women were actually fighting alongside the men. Some women were helping the soldiers to regain their health!
HOW DID IT START?: Due to the fact that the war was assisted with the help of women, it resulted in ideas of change.
Another political change that has provided an immense effect on the colonies from the War would be that from now on, instead of relying on the King of Britain, they are able to have their own central government, in which the role was appointed to George Washington, the powerful, mighty, leader that is ideal for a newly formed nation.
EFFECT ON THE NATIVE AMERICANS:
Unfortunately, the Native Americans were badly affected by the revolutionary war as well. More people became settlers after the war, and looking for a place to start a community for the Native Americans was troublesome. They were soon losing their homes. It was extremely difficult for them to find peace in a new nation as they were often seen to be evil savages.
Generally speaking, the American Revolution had an immense impact on the society as well as the world socially, politically and economically. Although the colonialists successfully gained their own independence, they were also found in debt and problems that had to be solved. The revolution also strongly affected both African slaves and Native Americans who found themselves isolated from the nation of freedom.
